Do you miss the Writing 201: Poetry course by the Daily Post? Then join this blogging challenge, Poetry 101 Rehab, that will provide your poetry fix!
How it works
Each Monday at 01:00 pm UTC I will publish a poetry prompt along with my response to it. You are invited to answer the prompt, twist it or ignore it; write a poem of your own or share a poem by another author.
I would love to hear about your inspiration, your creative process or other poetry related thoughts, but this is no way obligatory. Nothing is obligatory in this challenge, the idea is to get together, talk poetry and have fun!
How You can Join
Anyone can participate, anytime you want. Publish your poetry post and add a link to it to the InLinkz link-up below my post, or share your link in a comment. Use the tag Poetry 101 Rehab, so we can find each other in the Reader.
I will act as your hostess, and I’ll be here for you to reply your comments, read your verses, like and comment. While my blog is the starting point for the challenge, do visit fellow poets in the link-up and chat to them on their blogs!
The Prompt: Right
A thought popped up
In the back of my mind
What if I’m wrong
And they are right
I pushed it aside.
I believe
But me
There’s nothing else
Left to be
But me.
This week’s prompt is RIGHT, and my response to the prompt is characteristically dark, as is my photo at the top of this post. While my poem focuses on the contrast of right and wrong, you can write about right versus left, about right alone in any sense or about anything really. What will your take on the keyword RIGHT will be? Blog about it in a poetry post and share your link below!
A thought I often have myself. A provocative piece of poetry…

Thank you, Andy, for being my most diligent rehab patient, and I’m glad that my little poem is relatable for you. Though maybe I shouldn’t be glad, considering the unpleasant content of the piece.

Right, let’s write
a poem.
But it’s not right
to write
just anything at all –
we must write
the right
words,
right?
Should we wait
until we’re ready –
until the time
is right
to write?
Or should we
throw caution
to the wind
and write away
right away?
I vote
the latter –
Let’s write here
right now
in response
to the writing prompt
“Right”
😊

A good prose poem is hard to find! And I just found one in your contribution. Your poem is vigorous and vivid and I’m honoured that you shared this piece for my modest Rehab!

Wow. That is a serious vein that I didn’t think was too typical of you. I’m deeply moved by your piece – I can’t relate personally, luckily, but I’ve seen situations like the one you describe. It always makes me very emotional. Thank you for saying what needs to be said and choosing to do so in my modest Rehab.

You are ever welcome, my friend… I to have seb this all too often. It is very sad. But I’m like to think she will recover well. But will he learn his lesson? Probably not…

It’s saddening, especially when the behavioural pattern gets repeated over and over…

Hi Mara, I had a play around with the tetractys form of verse I recently discovered and had fun trying different ways of using that form with your prompt for this week. So, a poem in response at https://pitterapatterre.wordpress.com/2015/03/16/right/ and also an article with info about tetractys poetry and some of other attempts in response at https://pathwayhalfwayhome.wordpress.com/2015/03/16/challenge-and-exploring-a-new-poetry-form-tetractys/
Best wishes and thanks for another great prompt to respond to 🙂

More than two decades? But what a shame! I would be honoured if you felt it was time to try your hand at some verses again… I love the rehab concept too – I obviously stole it from lovely Lucile’s Photo Rehab… Hope I won’t be in trouble!

Mara, I have at last caught up on the prompts, having finished Right: http://wp.me/p5BCD4-6S (as well as the poem for Thaw, which URL I will enter on the proper page.) I grew up in a small town, and railroad right-of-ways and long roads were the paths for discovery as I grew up. A river ran right along the railroad tracks on the far side of the town, and the right-of-way was an easy hike, compared to pushing through the thick undergrowth of the trees. That became a road I often followed when I was supposed to have been at a lifeguard-supervised village lake. Looking back, I realize that I wandered a lot longer and farther than my parents ever suspected.

Thank you so much, Liz, for catching up so diligently and writing another great piece of poetry! I see what you mean by railroads, I have a special spot for them too. (It’s not by accident that I use a photo of a railway station as the header image for my blog!) I enjoyed your poem very much, thank you for sharing it!
