Fem or man
Man or wo-man
All hum-man

Ulysses fares abroad
adventuring
Penelope waits at home
for him
With the quiet heroism
of women

Everyone is wrapped
In covers
Of false faces
For others
To choose
From
Talk not
Your neighbour could be
Secret Police
Drug Dealer
Child Trafficker
Trust none

I carry the tram routes
in my memory
I see the city
from the windows
of trams
The Five and the Nine stop
at the university
But only the Three goes
all the way up
to the cemetery
The crematorium
The terminal
And back
Unless you’re dead

with thin white fingers
Binds the bouquet
with a thick black ribbon
Wraps the flowers
in rough brown paper
And hands the dead thing
over the counter
From where I carry it
to adorn the ashes
of the dead

There was a Scotsman at EXPO
Who was eating pasta and pesto
But there was a wind
Which lifted the kilt
Of the cheeky Scotsman at EXPO

To reflect

connect
The shadow
From the substance
