In response to WP Weekly Photo Challenge: Weathered.
I’m fascinated with the American fascination with historical architecture. Where I live, everything is by default ancient, or at least old and weathered. Even the perfectly insignificant and uninteresting small town where I’m currently residing dates back to the twelfth century.
It has all the obligatory medieval props: remains of the city wall, cobblestones everywhere and the plague column. The poor clueless people built it to ward off the plague, rather than building a proper sewer system. Duh.
That’s a great photo Mara, I’d love to visit your town! May I suggest more photos of the town and it’s people? Interesting! ❤️

My town isn’t as interesting as the pictures might suggest! But yep, I’d be totally posting more photos from here 🙂

For those of us who live in young countries seeing history going back for centuries is fascinating. And I do believe America has not got a good track record for keeping the old intact. I have witnessed their fascination for ‘old’ buildings here – and ours cannot compare or compete with Europe and other places.

I understand that when you’re from a young country, as you say, you’re amazed by history. It’s so funny though, I’d prefer to live somewhere less historical and more modern!

I am rather drawn to twisted, withered and rotting things- it always feels like I am looking into a mirror.
Enjoyable image.

Ha 😀 I enjoy the ugly too. It started when I was 15 or so and discovered French naturalist writers. This fascination with the shady side stuck.

Exactly that. Zola’s my favourite. I’ve read most of his books. He was my first too…
