I don’t do things like being in the present, enjoying the moment, feeling happy and similar shit. In part because I don’t want to and in part because I’m not able to, which is presumably interrelated. Despite my relentless cynicism, I was surprised by the experience of a sort of a transcendental moment. It involved the toilet and the cat. It’s not as you think.
The cat pays me regular visits in the bathroom when I’m using it. I regard it as a sign of affection. As I was sitting on the toilet, doing my thing, the cat came, sat at my feet and stared at me, blinking slowly. I choose to interpret this probably random behaviour as my cat telling me she hates me the least. I was deeply touched. Insofar as I can be touched, that is.
I said,Β Awe, and,Β Mommy hates you the least too. I cuddled the cat, forgetting that I was in the middle of something, and noticed, as though I never saw it before, how cute she actually is. Not only is she particularly soft, she also has a fine fur pattern with a lovely brown tint, especially on her face. I really enjoyed this encounter. Likely, I was just high on my evening meds.
Awwww! I think my cat hates me the least too β€

I’m perfectly sure of that!

Those meds are amazing aren’t they. The insights they give you on subjects you may not have paid a lot of attention to in the past is remarkable. I remember once being able to appreciate the colours in a painting at a time when I was playing around with a certain drug. Until that moment I thought it just another painting by a good artist. Afterwards I saw it as a remarkable painting by a even more remarkable artist. I think its good at times to have our powers of observation heightened in some way.

I know, right! I’ve had exactly the same sort of experience that you describe. Some heightened state of consciousness. It was quite nice but also mildly scary. I sometimes deeply appreciate a book, something like you appreciated the painting, but most often I’m not in the present moment and don’t find much appreciation or wonder. I think I need more meds. Ha.

Maybe its a time thing, no point rushing recovery, look after you, be patient and a good patient you never know you’ll look around at some point and there before you will be all you desire, you just weren’t ready to see it staring you in the face…(my fingers are crossed).

I’m a good patient but a bit impatient π I mean, I’m doing all the right things and religiously following docs’ advice, so I’d expect to be getting something out of it too, something in exchange for the effort. Well, I’ll work on the patience part yet.

I have a canine version of that cat, except she’s smaller π She follows me everywhere … so cute π

It is so nice, isn’t it, when your pet follows you wherever you go. Even the bathroom π One gets used to it and then it’s no more creepy that the cat (or dog) stares at you while you’re doing your business in the bathroom. Creepy becomes cute π

Yes, but all that cat brings too, it is a holistic thing, including dead/live mutilated creatures, furballs and parasites of various types. And lots of floof on the carpet. But that is minor really π

Cat hair is my cat’s most abundant gift. She doesn’t bring anything in because I won’t let her out. For her own safety.

I have often wondered if you could card it straight off the floor, spin and then knit it into the most fabulous cat fur jumpers. Better than angora π

A cat jumper would be so awesome. At the moment, my cat is only giving me hairy legs.

But the lint roller could also class as an exfoliant, the savings could be quite considerable.

Long slippery slopes are very awkward, take ski jumping for example!

According to cat-know-it-alls, when they’re blinking slowly at you like that, that’s a sign of affection/bonding. You’re supposed to do the same back at them. I do that with McDuff.
Every now and then I get a short episode/glimpse of feeling of wellness … being in the present. It’s rare, but it happens. Interesting what Michael wrote about the painting. I’m not on any drug except caffeine and nicotine — they don’t do much to alter my mind, really. I do have some scrumptious benzodiazepines here, but they only make me fall asleep … wouldn’t touch them.

Yep, that’s exactly what I hear, that a cat blinking at you means I love you. I sometimes blink back too, but usually I just go all soft and talk to her and pet her. I think she responds to my voice well and can tell when I mean to be nice and comforting and when I’m telling her not to do something.
Being in the present, yes, it’s so hard! I sometimes manage it, but I can’t consciously make myself do it, it just happens. When it does happen, it typically involves the cat or it happens when I somehow get in trance when I do yoga. It must be the repeated yoga movements and the breathing. It’s nice and scary.

I’ve never managed to get into yoga, but every now and then I can get one of those short sequences of being in the present … here and now … could happen anywhere, like downtown or so. Strange …

Yes, these moments can happen anywhere and anytime, it’s funny. I could do with more of them. It’s creepy but reassuring at the same time.

Ah, not at all – I was WAY overdue… only ever had sneak peaks on Instagram, so I’m very glad I finally got round to π Yes, I get you… I do that with my mom’s kitty as well, even though I’m allergic to cat hair π So I always end up going to wash my face afterwards π But I just can’t resist…^^

I tell you what: I used to hate them… The neighbours’ cat ate our fish in our pond… π¦ It was only years after that I warmed up to them and even more now with the kitties of my mum. One is already claimed to be “my kitty”… π So it’s true – “the lengths one goes” π
Ah, poor you, I get you… I’m knackered as well – have no plans whatsoever for the weekend but to recharche my poor drained batteries… I hope you have time to take care of yourself! Indulge in a hot bath or paint your nails or something π

Oh that’s a cute story! (Though the fish in the pond probably didn’t think so.) It took me a while to warm to cats too, but now I’m in love with them.

Tragic, actually… The fish were named by us, and we checked on them every day. Six of them froze in the pond that winter, and the remaining three were cherished by us. That’s why we hated the cat even more I’d say… We even burried them and built a cross and all π Aye, I’d say the older one gets, the more one feels the beauty of those furry animals β€

Oh, I’m sorry to hear that! I didn’t realise the fish was so well loved… Well, it’s in the past.
