For Photo 101’s prompt glass, I swear I was trying to shoot a dram of whisky. I failed in that the dram proved too tempting not to down before the shooting session, which consequently never happened. In keeping with the Scottish topic, though, here are shots from Edinburgh’s St Mary’s.

Yes, these are stained windows, or glass paintings, as you put it. The cathedral was a bit dark inside because the windows were few, but when some sunshine got it, it was really beautifully lit. Glad you like it!

Glad you like! Might not be the best photos, but I did my best in post-editing and I liked the bright sparkly colours of the window paintings, so I posted these anyway 😉

Did you use special setting to get the clarity and brilliance in the dark setting?

Well, I boosted the overall clarity and sharpness, and then I selected the windows and boosted their vibrancy, saturation and light. A lot of manipulation, it would look, but the result does not drastically differ from the original.

Oh, no! I’m surly when perfectly sober. When I’m drunk I may get surlier, but usually I just get edgier. I’ve killed many a fellow drinker with my sharp wit.

Thank you, it’s been my pleasure to bring you back to St Mary’s! It’s an impressive cathedral and surprisingly, I didn’t feel as oppressed by its grandeur as I normally feel in most religious buildings. Perhaps this is because I was there during the Prestonpans Tapestry exhibition, so the place was full of casual visitors like me.

Love the colours….hope you enjoyed the dram…I have many memories of Scotland (some good some not…) so it is lovely to see these…and would be good to see that shot of whisky too…

What?! You have got other than good memories of Scotland? I’m sorry to hear that. It’s my favourite country. ❤ The dram shots didn't turn out good at all, and I deleted them. I can't shoot indoors, my photos are always too blurry. I'm still coping with the manual settings on the camera and shooting on auto doesn't produce good results indoors because there is poor light. So, that's a long way of saying that there are no whisky pictures and won't be any because I'll stick to drinking it.

Way better to drink it than take photos of it anyway…bittersweet memories may be a better way of describing it….I used to visit a lot, my favourite places were tiny and out of the way up on the west coast, one of the happier memories was sitting on a wall watching the sun set over the harbour in Oban with a dram (while quite a bit more…) to wash down deep fried haggis and chips delightfully served in newspaper….

Oban? Very well, it goes down on my bucket list now. As does pretty much all of Scotland… Bittersweet memories are good, maybe even better than sweet memories only. Sweet memories are hardly faithful to reality.

Haha, my shots are totally irreligious, I went in the cathedral only to see the Prestonpans Tapestry that was on display there at the time, normally I would probably pass. The whisky shots were lousy, if you pardon me the expression, because I haven’t learned yet how to shoot under poor light conditions indoors. And I really hated looking at the whisky and trying to shoot it rather than drinking it, which is obviously the only sensible thing that can be done with a dram.

Now what would have been good is to see the dram of whisky in your hand like a cheers infront of the shot of the window, or too much to ask? hehe…great shots and i love stained glass i have some in my house but nothing like this of course as I do not live in a Cathdral though I would not mind 😀 x
